Sale price€12.495,00

Product information:
A magnificent piece of design history, this vintage cabinet / highboard was designed by the renowned Belgian designer Alfred Hendrickx for Belform. This particular example is an exceptionally rare and unique edition created for the Expo 58. For the World Expo, Alfred Hendrickx collaborated with ceramic artist Jaak van de Vijver from the celebrated ceramic studio Perignem to create this extraordinary cabinet.

The cabinet is distinguished by its stunning ceramic art doors, which immediately draw attention with their striking abstract compositions. The ceramic artwork consists of 28 individual tiles, with 14 tiles adorning each door. Every door is signed “V.D.V 58,” referring to Jaak van de Vijver and the year of creation. The abstract tile designs feature elegant blue, white, black, and yellow accents that blend harmoniously with the rich ebonized wood and bubinga veneer of the cabinet. Both Alfred Hendrickx and Perignem used this remarkable piece to impress visitors during the Brussels World Expo.

Beyond its artistic appearance, the cabinet is highly functional, offering multiple adjustable shelves, drawers, an integrated bar section, and a display cabinet. Combining exceptional craftsmanship, artistic collaboration, and historical importance, this cabinet stands as a rare and unique example of Belgian Mid-Century Modern design.

Alfred Hendrickx was one of Belgium’s most influential Mid-Century Modern furniture designers. Known for his refined minimalist approach and sophisticated use of materials, Hendrickx created elegant furniture pieces that balanced modern functionality with luxurious craftsmanship. His work for Belform became highly regarded during the 1950s and 1960s and remains sought after by collectors worldwide. His collaborations with artists and craftsmen, such as Perignem, demonstrate his commitment to integrating fine art into furniture design.

Perignem was an important Belgian ceramic workshop known for its experimental and artistic ceramic productions throughout the twentieth century. The studio collaborated with several prominent artists and designers, producing highly decorative and collectible works that combined craftsmanship with modern artistic expression.
