Exceptional Edo-period samurai armor, a refined example of the ceremonial artistry and martial elegance of Japan’s warrior aristocracy. A complete and highly decorative armor set that embodies the perfect balance between functionality, symbolism, and prestige.

At its core is a superb suji-bachi kabuto made from multiple riveted iron plates, finished with a rich aged patina. It is crowned with a gilt tehen no kanamono, while the maedate features antler-like blades framing a gilded sun disc, symbolising celestial authority. The fukigaeshi are adorned with finely executed gilt dragon ornaments in high relief, powerful protective symbols associated with high-ranking samurai or daimyo.

The menpō is lacquered in deep black with a natural-hair moustache and articulated jaw, giving it strong expressive character. The shikoro is constructed from finely lacquered blue and gold plates, laced with silk. The okegawa ni-mai dō cuirass is finished in dark brown lacquer and deep indigo silk lacing, accented with elegant orange ceremonial cords. The sode retain rare bear-fur edging, a luxury material indicating high status. The kote, haidate, and suneate are finely crafted with lacquer, fabric, and detailed finishing, while a butterfly mon (chō-mon) appears on the leg guards as a poetic symbol of transformation.

The extensive use of gilding, dragon imagery, and rare materials confirms this as armor made for the highest ranks of samurai society, where ceremonial power and identity were as important as battlefield function.
