Pair of Gothic Revival lounge chairs by Victor Aimone 1880
Product information:
Magnificent pair of 19th-century hand-carved lounge chairs by celebrated Italian sculptor Victor Aimone, known for his internationally acclaimed Gothic Revival carvings and awarded a Gold Medal at the Paris Exhibition. A rare and highly sculptural pair that reflects his distinctive narrative style.
The chairs feature richly carved wooden backrests with upholstered central panels, flanked by monks, dragons, and a heraldic shield in a dramatic medieval composition. The armrests end in lion claws gripping satyr heads, while the lower structure continues with demon-like Gothic motifs and winged detailing. Every element is deeply carved and highly expressive.
Each chair stands on strong lion-claw feet and is finished with elegant green upholstery framed by champagne-gold trim, enhancing the warmth of the carved oak and overall presence.
A rare, museum-worthy Gothic Revival pair, showcasing the height of 19th-century Italian craftsmanship and sculptural storytelling.
